Section 51a*
(1) As regards the offences referred to in paragraph 2, which are punishable pursuant to the
treaties referred to in that paragraph, extradition may be granted to states party to the relevant
treaty.
(2) Subsection 1 relates to:
.the indictable offence referred to in article 385a of the Criminal Code, provided it falls within
the definitions of the Convention for the Suppression of unlawful seizure of aircraft, concluded at
The Hague on 16 December 1970;
.the indictable offences referred to in articles 162, 166, 168, 385b and 385c of the Criminal
Code, provided the offence falls within the definitions of the Convention for the suppression of
unlawful acts against the safety of civil aviation, concluded at Montreal on 23 September 1971;
.the indictable offences referred to in section 10, subsections 2, 3, 4, and 5, section 10a, sub-
section 1, and section 11, subsections 2 and 3, of the Opium Act, provided the offence falls within
the definitions of paragraph 1 of article 36 of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, as
amended pursuant to article 14 of the Protocol amending the Single Convention on Narcotic
Drugs, concluded at Geneva on 25 March 1972.
.the indictable offences referred to in articles 92, 108-110, 115-117b and 285 of the Criminal
Code, provided the offence is committed against an internationally protected person or his pro-
tected property and falls within the definitions of the Convention on the Prevention and Punish-
ment of Crimes against Internationally protected Persons, including Diplomatic Agents, conclu-
ded at New York on 14 December 1973 (Treaty Series 1981, 69);
.the offence referred to in article 282a of the Criminal Code, provided it falls within the defini-
tions of the International Convention against the taking of Hostages, concluded at New York on
17 December 1979 (Treaty Series 1981, 53);
.the offences referred to in articles 166, 168, 350, 352, 354, 385a, paragraph 4, 385b, paragraph
2 and 385c, provided the offence falls within the definitions of the Convention for the Suppression
of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation and the Protocol for the Suppression
of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Fixed Platforms located on the Continental Shelf, concluded
at Rome on 10 March 1988 (Treaty Series 1989, 17 and 18);
.the offences referred to in section 10b, subsections 2, 3, 4 and 5, Section 10a, subsection 1,
and Section 11, subsections 2 and 3 of the OpiumAct, as well as the offences referred to in articles
131, 140, 189, paragraph 1, chapeau and under 30, 416 and 417 of the Criminal Code, provided
the offence falls within the definitions of article 3, paragraph 1 of the UN Convention against illicit
traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, concluded at Vienna on 20 December 1988
(Treaty Series 1989, 97).
(3) Extradition pursuant to subsection 1 shall be effected subject to the provisions of this Act
